Tyler chose to live with us when he was about eight months old, although we are not entirely sure of his exact birth date since he's been around a bit, and we have yet to track down an exact record of his birth or parentage. By the time Tyler adopted us he had already lived with two different families - not counting his birth family. From what we can tell, Tyler suffered from the same old, sad story that many Jack Russell Terriers have experienced - adoptive families that have no idea how to live with a terrier. Tyler chose us because we had been owned by Russells for more than 20 years, and so he gambled we would understand his particular skills and talents. So far it seems to be working out. He's lived with us since January, 2006, and has learned many things his earlier families never took the time to teach him - things like how to live inside a house, how to walk on the leash, basic obedience commands, and best of all - beginning agility skills. His favorite things are to go to the park with Alison, to go running with Richard, have agility lessons with Mia and Anne, and to sleep on a ratty-looking brown blanket on Alison and Richard's bed - which we think reminds him of his bed in the hot water heater cupboard he slept in at his last home. We think he's found his 'forever' home, and hope he thinks so too. |
