ADCH Leo Goes MACH!

ADCH Leo finished his MACH at the AKC trial in Ventura on March 30, 2013. Hard to believe that less than three years ago, Leo was serving his second term in the County Animal Shelter. Leo has quickly gone from two-time-shelter-inmate to two-time-agility champion with the help of Dorothy and GVDC.

On March 24, 2013, Beth and Lexi earned the USDAA PDCH (Performance ADCH) title at Happy Dog, earning their final Gamble Q under Judge Tami McClung. A lot of perseverance and teamwork eventually paid off and Beth is honored to earn this title with her amazing teammate, Lexi!

Tilson is my first performance dog, and she was a rescue, given to me at the dog park by a rescuer who kept her out of the shelter. She spent her first 18 mos. in somebody’s backyard, and was reactive to all other dogs, motion and noise. She’s come a long way. She shares our home with my husband Rob, our companion dog Simon and the cats. Tilson and I have been to Power Paws camp twice, and have just moved up to the Excellent level in AKC. We also compete at the Elite level in ASCA and the Performance 3 level in USDAA. Her favorite thing in the world is clicker training and treats. Mine is wine and chocolate.

Laguna Blanca Agility Demo

GVDC has been invited to do an agility demo for the younger students at Laguna Blanca and we need some teams to join us! We will be doing an agility demonstration on their field, and need dogs to run and others that like to schmooze with the kids. Here are the details:

Date: Wednesday March 20th

Location: Laguna Blanca South Campus, Montecito (off San Ysidro road)

Time: Arrive no later than 8:00am, demo starts at 8:20 and will run for about 30 minutes (fast and fun, you can do this before work!)

Skeeter Gets Her ADCH!

2012 AKC Invitational

On December 9th, Mike and I loaded up the dogs in a rented RV and started the long drive to Orlando, FL so Maizey and I could compete at the AKC Agility Invitational. It takes 4 long days of driving to get there, and we stayed on-site at the venue. What a spectacle! Nearly 600 dogs in the Agility competition, and they had an Obedience Invitational, Dock Dogs, and the Eukanuba Championship (conformation show) going on simultaneously: a solid weekend celebrating dogs. Maizey ran so nicely for me in her four scored runs: JWW, Std, JWW, and Hybrid, with finishes in the top 5 in every class. We ended up 3rd overall in our 16″ division, out of 140 dogs. Maizey won a little prize money for being third in the agility trial, and the highest scoring dog with a Rally title too. She was also awarded a big medal for being the highest scoring Australian Cattle Dog too, plus a few pretty ribbons. We earned the chance to run in the Finals class on Sunday evening, where we had a nice run but also our only error of the weekend. I was so thrilled with Miss Maizey at the Invitational, she really showed up ready to play and be a good girl for me. Maizey is only 3 years old yet seemed so mature in how she handled the days of traveling, three changes in time zones, the 5 of us living in cramped quarters for 2 weeks, and running in an unfamiliar, busy setting with dogs and people everywhere. It was such a super way to top off the year, so proud of my Maizey!

On December 22, 2012, Lexi earned her MACH title at the City of Industry trial site under Judge John Willmore. Beth is thrilled and honored to earn this title with her awesome teammate Lexi, who dearly loves the sport of agility and shows it every time she steps to the line.

CD RE NJP NAP THD CGC

Donny is a 4½ year old whippet. Donny and I are learning agility together and having fun. Donny has these titles CD, RE, NJP, NAP, THD, and also a CGC and was a star puppy. We are concentrating mostly on agility now. He does therapy visits at convalescent cares, assisted living and adult day care facilities. He is also involved in a pet reading program at the Lompoc Library.

MACH 2 Maizey!

On Saturday, October 27th, Maizey earned her MACH 2 title at the AKC agility trial in Camarillo. The weather was close to 95 degrees at the time and Maizey was a very good girl in both of her runs that day. In December, Maizey, Anne and the rest of the family will load up an RV and drive across the country for the AKC Agility Invitational in Orlando, Florida. That is sure to be an adventure!
