Class Descriptions and Times:

2:45pm Introduction To Agility:

The class is limited to 7 dog and handler teams, once that number is reached, we will open another Intro to Agility class at 4:00pm on Sundays. If you would prefer to join the 4:00pm class, please mention that when you RSVP to enroll in the Intro to Agility class on 9/13/18.

This class is for handlers and their dogs (age 6 months old and up) brand new to the fun sport of agility. We will introduce the obstacles individually, taking time to teach dogs and their owners how to perform each piece of equipment. Additional skills emphasized in this class: various agility foundation exercises, encouraging the frequent use of rewards and reinforcers for the dogs, teaching a start-line stay, learning how to train cues to help the dogs understand what we are asking of them, and to introduce short sequences and handling. The main goal for this class is to have a fun hour with our dogs, teaching the basics of the great sport of agility and setting the stage for future learning.

Class arrival time: 2:30pm

*Per GVDC club policy, dogs in Agility and Focus classes must not be aggressive towards other dogs or people and under control of their handler at all times. Dogs showing aggression before, during, or after classes will be asked to leave.

For all Agility Classes, please bring with you each week:
Your dog on a flat buckle collar or front-clip harness. Bring a variety of delicious meaty treats for your dog (cooked chicken, hot dogs, turkey meatballs, string cheese, freeze-dried meaty treats, bits of hamburger patty, Happy Howies beef roll, etc), water and a bowl, a chair for yourself, shade for your dog, clicker, 4 or 6 foot leash (no flexi’s please), and ideally a crate or pen for your dog. Please bring a toy or two that your dog really enjoys, to use as a reward throughout the class.

For a dog that is not yet motivated by toys or for a pup that needs some cool new ones, please look at the treat pouches lined with bunny fur and fleece and other creations, made by our own Linda Keating. Linda is often at classes and can be reached via email at 44linda@cox.net, and you may be able to purchase from her at Girsh Park: http://kibatoys.com/main.sc
